AUTUMN/WINTER 2010 Trends
Don't be a slave to fashion - BUT DO HAVE FUN WITH IT!
What will YOU be wearing this coming season?
Obviously, not all of today’s trends will appeal to you/suit you. However, I urge you, whatever your age/size etc why not have fun trying to incorporate something from the current trends to update your look – tho not all at once :-)Could you start with an on-trend handbag or scarf?
Last year it was all about structure with giant shoulders etc but this year the dominant theme is texture. In the fashion world we are experiencing a throwback to 1990's minimalism - possibly reflecting current economic recession. This look could be boring but when you add and mix interesting textures then, hey presto, it's not boring at all!
We are now seeing outfits mixing up textures for effortless chic – smooth silk dresses with lace cutouts, rugged sheepskin and aviator jackets.
wool with leather. Wool with faux-fur. Shoes made of both wood and leather. Swede and leather mixes also abound this year.Camel is the new hot classic
, which is great for spring and autumn ladies this season. There are lots of camel skirts in pencil, A-line or mini styles and a gorgeous camel coat is a fabulous classic investment that will take you through many winters. Camel is best avoided by winter or summer ladies who look better in blues, greys and black. For summer and winter ladies grey is one of the season’s most versatile neutrals but don’t just mix
grey with black, remember to add a flash of your best colour, otherwise this look tends to be boring.Tartans
are in again and also tweeds – producing a great clash when mixed together! Go careful here!!Tame your inner animal with animal print in bags, shoes and boots - only one dose is required!
Capes and military
– military marches continues to march on although it has been reinvented this season. Do not overdo this theme - choose one key piece and dress round it.Knitwear
– is always great to keep you cosy in the cold weather and this year it is a dominant look. This season we are mixing different pieces of varying texture – the key here though is to remember not to go too chunky, especially if you are layering, unless you want to add virtual pounds!!! Blazers rarely seem to go out do they, this season they fall just below the hips – great for short-waisted ladies and those with larger hips. Petite’s should take care here or they may end up looking swamped.Trousers
the neat peg-legs are still here and are generally great for ladies with ample hips and thighs but petite’s and those with neat bottoms/hips, unless young and stick thin, should wear them with caution.White Shirts
are always present but this season look for extra detailing which gives it a fresh look.Waistcoats
another regular this time of year and great for correcting short and long waists and brilliant for layering. Soften the masculine look with a feminine shirt.Dresses
look cool layered with a blouse. Maxi dresses are great, belt and boot for a relaxed look.Accessories
– thick belts go out and in come thin belts that are belted normally or casually knotted. Killer boots. If you are re-vamping something you already have in your wardrobe wear it in a different way - or you might not look trendy at all!
I tell clients they need to be aware of current trends so they can update their style.
If they look like they belong to the last decade they could miss out on new opportunities – and so could you!I hope you will have fun trying new things this season girls but if you need help with your style do give me a call for a free, no obligation chat about how Colour Confident can help YOU!
