Top tips for packing for a holiday

Only pack clothes you love to wear. A holiday isnt the time to breakin your new blouse the tags still on it that you havent worn yet. If you dont wear it at home you probably wont wear it whilst you are away.Only pack your favourite clothes that way you wont mind having less of them with you.Look at the big picture a bit of planning pays dividends. All the separates in your case should be versatile and go well with each other another reason to build a capsule wardrobe and pack things you wear most often. Darker colours tend to look better on a second wearing. Prints though less versatile hide the wrinkles better than solid colours. Rather than folding try rolling your clothes into a sausage shape they will be less creased and should fit together nicely too.Choose 2 thin items rather than one bulky one a chunky jumper takes up a lot of room in a suitcase but 2 thin jumpers will layer giving just as much warmth and take up less room.Keep shoes down to a maximum of 3 pairs no mat...

My weeping eyes problem solved this may help you too

Ladies	I am sharing my experience with you because it may help you too. About 3 years ago I started with constant weepy eyes my Dr wasnt concerned as tears were not running down my cheeks. However the symptoms continued intermittently for 3 or more years and I just put up with it. So fed up I mentioned it to another Dr who gave me a Piriton type tablet for allergies which seemed to work but symptoms returned when the tablets finished. It was not until this year when I saw another Dr that I found what was really wrong and how to get rid of the symptoms.Because my initial concerns were pushed aside I never pursued my problems and put up with the weeping even though this meant my eyes were constantly sore and spoiled my makeup. In desperation I mentioned my symptoms to a 3rd dr who suggested I repeat a months trial of the Piriton and the month after a trial with Hypromellose Eye Drops 0.3 and report back. To my surprise the eye drops started to work after a few days and no more weepi...

In January 2011 at the Stanford Centre Laceby I held my first workshop with friend and fellow Image Consultant Diane Miller of Scunthorpe. The day started much earlier for Diane and I but at 9.45 a.m. 22 lovely ladies ages 20s70s arrived to the tune of Here Come the Girls by Ernie K Doe Boots ad ready to begin our A Stylish New You workshop. Each lady was given her Style Workshop Folder and we chatted over a cuppa but at 10 a.m. made a prompt start as we had lots to cover.First the ladies were asked a few questions about their image which they recorded in their Workshop Folders for future reference. The next step probably seemed bizarre and totally unrelated I demonstrated wrapping different types of gifts from a bar of chocolate to a ball. However the link was soon made between their own body shape and the different shapes of clothes and fabrics After a short break in our second morning session each lady identified her proportions not size and received lots of individual advice ...

Fish Pedicure what is it and why did I have it done

Today I went for a fish pedicure I saw them advertised at the end of last year in Cambridge and ever since had been searching for the same service locally. My friend Wendy told me they were doing them at Sally Laughtons in Immingham so I booked for myself and my friends son Reuben 10 and we went this morning. First of all our feet were sprayed to remove anything that may adversely affect the fish creams etc and dirt perhaps The pedicures are done with Gara Ruffa Fish which are native to Turkey where they live and breed in the outdoor pools they have been found to be very effective in the treatment of skin conditions like psoriasis. Basically the fish live on affected or dead skin and in the wild they would nibble away relieving other fish of their dead scales. Why did I go for a fish pedicure For one I was curious and for another to get rid of the build up of hard skin on my feet. Reubens reason was pure curiosity to see what it felt like having fish nibbling his feet and also to ...

PlusSize Teen Fashion a growing market

During the past 10 years obesity rates amongst young people have doubled. In response to this and to meet the growing demand for teen fashion many retailers are starting to offer a plussized fashion range.
Later this year Evans the High Street Fashion chain will launch an online range of clothes for the larger teenage girl sizes 18 and above. At the moment the website name and launch date are unnown. Currently Evans only cater for plus sized ladies from sizes 1432 and unfortunately their ranges have not had a reputation for being particularly inspiring or fashionable.
Other retailers are also following the plussize teen trend and last month MampS also introduced a plussized range of school uniforms Marc Jacobs is to start offering clothes in size 14 and above and ASOS has launched a plus size range called Asos Curve.
It seems that currently the emphasis is placed on teenage girls but hopefully it wont be long before teenage boys needs are addressed too there is most definitely a ...

Even though the cake tin only touched my cheek for a nanosecond I thought I might have a nasty burn. My first instinct was to put ice on it which I did for 5 minutes until I got bored. My husband said he couldnt see a mark so I didnt worry any more about it BUT later on I saw I had a nasty burn on my left cheek
In desperation I posted a note on Facebook most people were sympathetic but a couple of friends advised me to get some Bio Oil. I had never heard of it and wondered if it would still work as by now the burn was a day old. They assured me it would be fine so I located a bottle of the magic oil at my local chemist shop at a cost of Ten pounds for 200 ml expensive but would be worth it if it got rid of the nasty scar on my cheek.

It is great to receive compliments but this man I soon realised was drunk he even had the evidence in his hand and kept asking the assistant if he had paid for his drinks. Maybe he was celebrating Englands win over Slovenia in the football although I think it might have been a bit premature time wiseIn the evening I told my husband Patrick about my admirer he said well he might have been drunk but he could still recognise a gorgeous sexy woman.
I DID use rainwater to wash my face this morning results

Following on from my 2 previous blog entries I am continuing my experiment to see if using rainwater on my face improves my complexion. I am pleased to report that this morning I did it Yesterday I was put off using rainwater as I had collected it in a bucket outside and it was freezing. Last night I decided to transfer the water to a bottle and put it in the bathroom. This morning the water was not freezing and next to the sink ready for me to use much easier to tackle first thing I have to say I found it a very pleasant feeling cool and refreshing and left my skin feeling lovely. Usually after cleansing my face I cant wait to put my moisturiser on as my face feels dry but today I hardly needed to put moisturiser on my skin felt so lovely and soft. I plan to continue this regime because now I have reached that age I do have some areas of dry skin on my face and using rainwater may help. I have already thought about what I will do if it doesnt rain use cooled boiled water ...

This morning I collected a small bucket of rainwater from the garden to use as part of my morning routine. Of course the water was cold and I wasnt keen on washing my face with freezing cold water even though that was part of my own blogs recommendations see yesterdays blog

In practise the cold water just wasnt appealing I will try again tomorrow and let you know if I have more success. If you have any health and beauty tips that you want to share please do comment on this blog or email or write to me it would be good to share useful tips with each other.

Shame today is not sunny either but I forgot to say yesterday too much sun is definitely bad for your complexion

How to improve your complexion using inexpensive natural products

We have had a lot of rain in the last 3 days AND most of us cannot wait for the sunshine to return
Why do we have rain and what are its benefits We know it is needed to grow crops and flowers I am usually pleased when the rain has watered the garden for me.
Your skin is like the leaves on a delicate plant and one benefit we may not consider is that rainwater is excellent for our skin. Hard tap water is often blamed for spoiling complexions and many women use only rainwater on their face or at the very least boiled tap water boiling softens water.
Many women in their 80s who own their own complexion have used nothing more magical as their facewash than freshly gathered dew or fresh rainwater. With the current plentiful supply of rainwater it may be worth you trying this out for yourself I plan to.
Whilst on the subject of skincare I would not recommend using toilet soap as a cleanser facial cleansing bars are better and kinder to the skin. In my Blog on 10 November 2009 I w...

Whilst talking to my client AnnMarie this morning she said shed enjoyed the Wardrobe Weed article on my blogMarch 2010 I asked her if she now had a slimline and tidy wardrobe but she hesitatingly replied No. She had found my blog useful but after chatting further it became clear what had stopped her taking action.

She said her wardrobe was full of expensive clothes that didnt fitor suit her but she felt bad getting rid of them. She was frustrated because she knew she was only giving storage space to unworn clothes. I agreed but added not only were they taking up wardrobe space but also causing her extra stress and guilt because they reminded her of poor purchases shed made or money she had wasted.

Surprisingly research tells us that ladies spend 16313000 on unworn clothes wasting much hard earned cash Retail therapy supposedly a treat to give you a boost often quickly fades when poor choices hasty purchases and mostly sale shopping leads to daily guilt trips on...

Top tips for accessorising

Hi Ladies When I was interviewed on the Lara King Show on radio Humberside this week Tues 11th May one of the questions Lara asked me was how important accessorising was. I replied that it was very imortant without having the chance to go into much detail. As I know that accessorising is an area that many of us struggle to get right I thought it would be worth offering some advice about this on my blog. You can change the whole look of an outfit just by using accessories. Get accessorising right and you will look fabulous but get it wrong the results can be disastrous regardless of how much money you have spent. One golden rule is to buy your outfit first and then choose your accessories not the other way round. Many women say they dont accessorise because they dont know how or dont have time but the basic trick is to balance simple with detailed. This means a simple outfit should be accessorised with more ornate accessories. And a more detailed outfit should b...

Good afternoon ladies

I just read an article about hair care and as it was in the same vein as the information on conditioner that I mentioned in my blog the other day I thought it was worth sharing with you.

Research tells us that us ladies spend more than 163300 a year on our hair I can hear many of you saying no not me but maybe you would be surprised if you totalled up the amount you spent on your hair in a year. To counter this especially in credit crunch times Scott Cornwall top London Hair and Image Consultant www.scottcornwall.com has given money saving tips for our hair.

Scott says not to be a slave to the salon but encouraging us with tips that will extend the lifespan of our cut and colour which will save us hundreds of pounds on unnecessary trips to the hairdresser. Scott says that often the colour we have put on our hair goes literally down the plughole. I mentioned in my previous blog about the benefits of investing in colourlocking shampoos and conditi...

Isnt it great that the weather is improving getting quite hot at times not at all typical of April showers weather is it Am sure there will be a hosepipe ban soon though

Whilst I was having my hair done I hate that word done not the best word to use is it the other day there was a discussion in the salon about using conditioner whether it should be used how it should be used etc. I found this quite interesting and joined in the conversation with what I knewexperienced.

I never used to use conditioner on my hair as it was very greasy but nowadaysm as I now colour my hair and am getting to that age I do use conditioner.

One of the ladies said she put the conditioner on and then rinsed it straight off the hairdressers all agreed that conditioner was a good thing to use on your hair and that it was best to leave conditioner on for a few minutes before rinsing it off so it could do its job. The routine that was suggested was

Defining eye brows
Using primer
Applying eye shadows and how to make your eyes look brighter
How to make your lashes fuller and longer with mascara
Curling lashes

I saw an interesting ad today for some British made swimwear that allows you to get an all over tan without having to resort to topless or naked or sunbathing.

The swimwear is made from revolutionary Transol174 fabric which has millions of tiny apertures which allow up to 80 of the suns tanning rays to pass through giving you an allover tan with minimal tan lines. In case you are wondering apparently you cant see through it even when the swimwear is wet.

They have this swimwear in the latest styles and colours including the ontrend monokini refers to a one piece bathing suit or bottoms only. I had a quick look at the website may want to check it out too www.kiniki.com they do womens sizes from 820 and mens sizes from small to XXL.

Someone has already asked me whether you would need to use sun protection all over when wearing it I would suggest that as the swimwear allows a high percentage of the suns rays through it then the answer to that question would be yes but ...

Due to some health problems you are receiving this article much later than promised but I hope you will find it was worth the wait and that it spurs you into action and to weeding out your wardrobe
The recent beautiful sunshine we have seen reminds us that Spring IS in the air even though we continue to be plagued with heavy frosts and even threats of snow. Spring is typically associated with decluttering and cleaning so now is probably the most popular time of year for people wanting to clear their wardrobes too.
Why the need to declutter our wardrobe
Statistics tell us that most of us wear only 20 of our clothes 80 of the time. Put another way we wear less than a quarter of our wardrobe most of the time and 80 percent of our clothes just sit in the wardrobe taking up precious space.
A good wardrobe weed will tell you whether these statistics reflect your wardrobe but more importantly it will help you discover WHAT IS and WHAT IS NOT working in your wardrobe. So how do you tack...

St Valentines Day a day for love or war

I was surprised this week to find that day in the year most renowned for arguments and fighting between couples is February 14th and another website I looked at referred to Valentines Day being one of the least romantic days of the year because the majority of men act like robots purchasing flowers and chocolates for their sweethearts because this is what everyone else is doing. It went on further to say that many people celebrate the day out of obligation rather than celebration. So perhaps it is not surprising that this day often brings strife rather than love to surface as many men are robotically buyingordering chocolates and flowers for their women and driven to do this by fear and obligation but not by love. Isnt that sad And perhaps the people who are made the most happy by this celebratory day are the ones making money eg the shop keepers and makers of cards and chocolates.
So how did Valentines Day begin
There are varying opinions about its beginnings. Some say it origi...

I had another lady this week who was difficult to diagnose during colour analysis due to her wrong hair colour. When we are born we have the perfect colouring our hair eyes and skin all complement one another but when ladies mainly go grey and start colouring their hair then problems often begin.
My client complained that in the past none of the lipsticks she was recommended were ever right for her this is probably due to the fact that her hair is out of sync with her skintone and eyes and hair colour is very dominant.
Once this lady gets her hair colour restored either to its original colour or at least with deeper warm tones then the lipstick problem should be a thing of the past for her.
Amazing isnt it that something that seems so unimportant as a hair colour plays such a huge role but then hair as we have already said is very dominant no wonder it is referred to as our crowning glory so please do be careful you are getting good advice before colouring your hair or hav...

Hi Julie I may be in need of your services...I have lost my grey and have gone blond with streaks of toffee etc...Problem is none of the colours that normally suit me now do etc I am sure you have heard this many times.
Yes this is a typical story and it happens to many ladies who go to the hairdressers or colour their hair themselves. The problem is that many hairdressers want to warm grey hair up which is great if you have warm skin tones to match but if you have cool skin tones and you have a warm hair colour then you will find yourself with the same dilemma as the lady here.
Colour Analysis not only advises you on the best colours for clothes but it also gives advice on accessories and hair colour. Hair colour is very important and many hairdressers dont appear to be trained to take into account skin tones and eye colour when advising clients on changing their hair colour.

Red lips have been sported by women from time eternal. Applying red colours to perk up a pout can be traced back to ancient times and the colouring has been made in lots of ways including a concoction of carmine beetles and ants yuk In the past ladies have been so attached to their red lip colourings that they were even buried with a pot of it
From Elizabeth I to the Roaring Twenties where flappers wore red lips to signal post WW1 freedom to the 1940s and film star Veronica Lake sported perfect red lips that many tried to copy with WW2 raging during that time it was surprisingly considered patriotic for sweethearts to maintain their appearance In the 80s as the working girl world came to the fore red lips became power lips their beauty was perfectly captured by Robert Palmers iconic Addicted to Love video. Madonna crucially endorsed red lips in 1986 when she declared MACs Russian Red to be her favourite not surprisingly it became an instant best seller More recently we have b...

Some great advice below in an article from my friend and fellow Image Consultant Jane Fardon who last year launched her own fabulous brand of cosmetics. The Jane Fardon Cosmetics primer is particularly good for protecting the skin at this time of the year and in the summer no wonder it is their topselling product The Shadow Lifting Pens are a must for those of us who want to erase some of the lines and camouflage dark areas around our eyes these are also in demand for girls who want their eyes to shine in the disco lights. I stock the full range including all the luscious lipsticks. Please contact me if you would like more information and to try it out You can even have a peep first online at www.janefardon.com

After rereading this article I am going to get myself a glass of water to rehydrate my skin Also what occurred to me is that if this is the time of the year when you drink more alcohol like me which also causes dehydration you probably we need to drink eve...

I forgot to mention that my client who is looking for a wedding outfit is also a petite Us petites I am just under 410 have even less choice in the shops. Fortunately nowadays there are more suppliers of petite ranges of clothing. In this instance I directed my client to Karen Gillam a fellow petite Image Consultant who designs and sells her own range of peite clothes. If you are a petite lady under 53 I would urge you to have a look at Karens small but fantastic range at www.karengillam.co.uk I bought the Camilla Pencil Skirt and have worn it for my corporate work parties and everyday it is very smart and classy and elongates my tiny frame in the place where I need it most

How do you find an outfit for a wedding when the shops are full of Christmas party dresses

A lady I saw this week is almost at desperation point she needs an outfit for her sons January wedding but the shops are all geared up for the coming Christmas party season and she cant find anything suitable. This lady is not on the Internet otherwise I would have directed her to some websites that cater for occasion wear for ladies all the year round.
Apart from trying some of the smaller boutiques locally perhaps the only other real option here is to send for some catalogues and choose an outfit by mail order. In the past there was a bit of stigma attached to buying clothes by Mail Order and possibly some of this remains but if you can get beyond this then you will find there are lots of lovely suppliers of great quality clothes who offer a wonderful service.
Here are one or two that I have used myselfdirected clients to
Gray amp Osborn cater in sizes 1026 www.grayandosbourn.co.uk

My friend and fellow Image Consultant Diane Miller from Scunthorpe had a wonderful girls day out together in Meadowhall a couple of weeks ago. We both spend our working lives trying to encourage other ladies and men to try different styles of clothes etc but we find it very difficult to be objective about ourselves and our own style. With this in mind we organised a day out to encourage each other to try new and different styles etc. Diane and I have a lot in common get on well and really enjoy each others company so it was a chance to catch up with each other research the latest fashions enjoy a lovely lunch out and buy some new things for ourselves
We had a brilliant day. We travelled by train so no driving or traffic queues etc and arrived at 10 am though we didnt leave the shopping centre until 7.15 pm After 9 hours shopping and chatting we were absolutely exhausted but as well as tired legs and aching feet we had some lovely clothes and accessories. We had a fab...

Tights please

Whilst browsing a magazine whilst in my hairdressers this week I found a article recommending a website called Tights Please. People who have known me for any length of time would know I always used to wear trousers until a client commented last year on this and it was a bit of a wake up call for me and a challenge.

I am very blessed with shapely legs. In my youth I had very skinny legs but thankfully they have gained weight now but so has the rest of me where I didnt need it To be truthful I always wore trousers because I have a hip problem and it meant I could wear sensible more chunky footwear. These didnt look good with skirts. However I have now found that short skirts thick tights and leg warmers etc look brilliant on me and this is so refreshing and I love the funky look that these give me it really suits my quirkyimpishfun personality.

I really fancied some red tartan tights but couldnt find any in the shops however at tights please they have an impressive...

Great cleanser and moisturiser cheap too

I met an old school friend last week who commented your skin still looks like it did when you were 14 you must tell me what facecream you are using I never did get to tell her because her mobile phone went off and she had to dash away but hopefully you will get to read this Alison.
I am 51 and get lots of compliments on my youthful complexion. My secret is probably that some of it is genetic as my Mum has good skin and so did my Grandfather her father. Also my Mum instilled in me from an early age the importance of a good morning and night routine of cleansing toning and moisturising. I did this from about age 21 and I guess I am now reaping the benefits.
Like my Mum I have never bought expensive products mainly Oil of UlayOlay Simple Loreal etc and even found some very good night and day creams in supermarkets like Lidl which cost less than 1633 a jar a bargain and a good product as well

Do you know what MBTS are

I got a text from my daughter today asking if I knew what MBTs were. I didnt but with the help of the invaluable search engine Google found out MBTs Masai Barefoot Technology are a type of shoe which claims to tone your body improve posture and ease back pain My daughter recommended them as I have had hip problems for years and her friends father saw a great improvement in his walking since wearing some.
MBTs were invented by a Swiss engineer Karl M252ller in the early 1990s after a visit to Kenya and discovering their Masai tribesmen dont suffer from back pain hence their name. Muller concluded that walking on hard surfaces like pavements that dont have any give has damaged our backs not to mention our knees and ankles He decided that this could be corrected wearing a shoe with a curved sole basically with no heel which imitates the rocking motion of a foot walking on soft sand or grass.
When I saw photos of these shoes I realised I had already seen them in the shops but disco...

I have got a bit behind with my blogging

So sorry to you all I have really neglected my blog. Truth is I have just been on a late and long summer holiday in France and my workload just piled up probably most of you will be able to identify with this
I have so much to do at the moment and not knowing where to start I made a list wow then I felt even more overwhelmed
When I get in a situation like this I remember a book I read last year which contained some great advice. One of the questions posed was How do you eat an elephant The answer was one bite at a time A strange answer you may think but when it was explained further that the elephant problem was that the lounge needed decorating and there was little spare time to do it. To tackle this problem the lady in question decided to put one strip of wallpaper up every day within a week or so the lounge was finished. I myself cant image decorating in this way common sense kicks in with all the wasted time getting the equipment out and putting it awa...

I received an email yesterday maybe you had it too about about a new fashion of seethru skirts the email claims these skirts are the current rage in Japan and will be the rage here soon and to be found in TK Max and Primark. It says these skirts are actually prints on the skirts to make them look as if the ladies panties are visible see below

I wondered if this this email like many I receive is a hoax or is it true A simple and quick search revealed that it was a hoax if ever you are not sure there are many trusted and valuable sites on the Internet but one I often use is www.snopes.co.uk For information about the skirts including photos have a look at this site httpwww.snopes.comphotosrisqueskirts.asp When I see emails like this it seems to me that some people have an awful lot of spare time to waste but I guess it gives the rest of us a laugh and thats good because laughter is the best medicine Proverbs 1722 Have you had any medicine today
